Charge Blade [CB]
Phial type
Every CB has one phial type between Impact and Power Element phials. Both phial types deals damage based on the weapon attack and elemental values and get buffed by all regular damage, element or attack skills. They deal explosive damage, meaning they will always consider the hitzone they hit with a 130% HZV and can’t crit. They’re also unable to cut tails as a result.
Impact phials specifically can benefit from the Artillery skill and deal stun damage, making them able to knockdown monsters. As a trade-off, Impact phials have lower MV than Power Element phials, making the second stronger meta-wise. Also when doing a Super Amped Elemental Discharge (SAED), Impact phials explode in a linear formation while Power Element phials go for a fan pattern.
Red shield
CB can load its phials into the shield to increase its power. The red shield buff last 2s + 6s for each phial charged in the shield (20s with 3 phials, 32 with 5) and increases your guard thresholds by 10 while also granting a 20% damage increase. The red shield buff also allows you to use SAED.
When using Sword Boost style, Firing Pin explosions increase the red shield buff by 2s for each explosion trigerred by an axe phial explosion.
Firing Pin [Sword Boost style]
When the sword boost is activated, your sword hits trigger Firing Pin, building up phial energy in the parts they hit. Every hit can charge a part up to 5 times and you can stack energy on up to three parts at once. Any hit landed on a fully charged part will trigger a weak explosion, with the possibility to trigger multiples spots at once if your sword connects with all of them.
When using an axe phial attack, be it a basic slash or an Axe Hopper, the phial energy accumulated will detonate, dealing hits on every part it lingers on. Note that a fully charged part will land a bonus explosion for a total of 6 explosions. The hits from a triggered explosion are two times more powerful than the ones from excess energy.
Insect Glaive [IG]
This part has been made with my own testing but also with the datamines from Queserasera on Discord.
IG is a weapon using two gauges, a stamina gauge and an extract gauge. And on top of that, each IG has a specific Kinsect linked to it with special properties.
Kinsect reflect their weapon stats, be it affinity, element / status or raw. They’re also impacted by all the skills on your armor set, be it damage, attack, affinity, status, element, Slugger, etc… The only skill damage skill found so far who has no effect on kinsect is Skyward Strike as it’s bound specifically to some hits of each weapon kit (and kinsects attacks don’t have that property, even for Flight ones).
Stamina gauge
Each IG hit generate energy units, producing one stamina point for every 6 energy units produced. A perfect dodge generates 10 units. Being under the red extract effects generates 2 units per second.
When you send the Kinsect using the pheromon shot (hold) or the pommel strike (hold then flick backwards), he will gather an extract, producing one segment on the extract gauge.
Also note that both the pommel strike and the pheromon shot generate 6 energy units and thus one stamina point. It’s thus more optimal to send your Kinsect while lacking one stamina point than after having fully maxxed your stamina.
Another interesting technic regarding the stamina gauge is to use your dive attack just as the extract gauge expires. Doing so will send your Kinsect with all stamina points charged and land a bonus extraction, allowing to fully or almost fully fill your extract gauge depending on the Kinsect.
Extract gauge
The extract gauge has three colors, granting you various bonuses depending on how much it’s filled:
- white: +2 iframes on perfect dodges and vault distance and height increased
- red: passive energy regen (2/s, so one stamina point every 3s)
- orange : cancel knockdown during ground combos (you don’t get interrupted by attacks that would results in a little stagger or put you on your butt but still get projected by stronger moves, Firm Foothold can reduce projections to lower reactions, keep in mind that you still lose the HP though)
- full gauge : charged state, 0,5 gauge segment consumed every 2s
All buffs are cumulative (so being on red grants you the white effects, being on orange both red and white effects and fully charged all 3 bonuses until you lose the charge).
Kinsect
Each Kinsect has a few parameters.
Kinsect type
For all Kinsect types, the default non charged extract harvest attack is the same with a 14 MV and 4 KO dealt if blunt.
Assist
Once in a charged state, the Kinsect will deal bonus hits during your grounded combos.
| Attack | MV | KO if blunt |
|---|---|---|
| Harvest | 26 | 4 |
| Combo | 26 | 4 |
| Combo during Tornado | 45 | 8 |
Build wise, these IG tends to use regular dps builds, using affinity and classic damage skills.
Flight
Once in a charged state, the Kinsect will deal bonus hits during your aerial combos. The grounded extract harvest attack is also reinforced.
| Attack | MV | KO if blunt |
|---|---|---|
| Harvest | 11 X 5 | 2 X 5 |
| Combo | 11 X 5 | 2 X 5 |
Specificity of this style and due to its high hitcount, the aerial combo kinsect attack only deals 33% status per hit. It’s also worth noting that Skyward Strike doesn’t affect the kinsect itself.
Build wise, Skyward Strike is in a complicated position. Here are the results of some testings I did. I pulled here a full aerial attack combo (3 attacks then dive) on the training dummy and assumed every hit touched the target (5 kinsects hits for Speed and Power, 7 for Stamina) and that the dive only did one damage tic before the main impact.
| Weapon | IG / kinsect damage ratio | SS 1 buff | SS 5 buff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rapid [Hope] | 62,4% / 37,6% | 9,36% | 24,96% |
| Stamina [Kushala] | 54,3% / 45,7% | 8,14% | 21,72% |
| Power [Nergigante] | 37,5% / 62,5% | 5,63% | 15,01% |
Kinsect not being affected by Skyward Strike reduces the skill value. As a 1 point skill, it’s a 10% buff for Rapid Kinsects which is pretty good. But it’s not really worth it for Stamina and Power and definitely shouldn’t be invested all the way to level 5 if you want to optimize your set. As such, Flight IG can use the same sets as Assist models.
Powder
Once in a charged state, the Kinsect will trigger powder explosions when it harvest extracts. The explosions deal explosive damage, ignoring the HZV and treating the part as a 130% weak part. They’re also unable to crit.
| Attaque | MV | KO if blunt |
|---|---|---|
| Harvest | 4 | 4 |
| Powder explosion | 46 | / |
Powder Kinsects can work on both grounded and aerial combos, grounded using the pheromon shot and pommel strike to trigger the explosions while aerial can use the dive, getting a bonus explosion in the process thanks to the bonus extraction from the move. They can also make good use of their special attack who is basically a fully powered dive and can benefit from having access to multiple special attacks (with skills like Valor).
Build-wise, as most of the damage comes from powder explosions who can’t crit, these IG want to avoid relying on any skill linked to affinity (such as Crit Element or Crit Ferocity).
Performance type
Power
Kinsect MV are increased but its attack speed is slower (Assist combo is on 20 frames instead of 12 while Aerial combo is on 40 frames instead of 24). These Kinsects also have exclusive bonuses.
Extraction gauge: 3
Extract gauge: 8
| Attack | Original MV | Power type MV |
|---|---|---|
| Non charged harvest | 14 | 22 |
| Harvest / Combo [Assist] | 26 | 30 |
| Combo during Tornado [Assist] | 45 | 52 |
| Harvest / Combo [Flight] | 11 X 5 | 21 X 5 |
Stamina
These Kinsects have a longer extraction gauge, to gather more extracts at once or allowing the Kinsect to deal more explosions for Powder types.
Extraction gauge: 5
Extract gauge: 8
Rapid
These Kinsects have shorter gauges, allowing them to reach their charged state faster but also having an harder time staying buffed.
Extraction gauge: 3
Extract gauge: 6
Kinsect bonus
Harvest Bonus [Rapid]
The Kinsect harvest 50% more extract, granting 1,5 extract gauge segment per stamina point. They can fully charge their gauge with only 4 stamina points.
Charged Harvest Bonus [Rapid]
The Kinsect can harvest extracts even during its charged state, including during its combos. Note that the extract gauge generation during the charged state is reduced to 0,5 extract gauge segment per stamina point instead of 1.
Includes: Brute Tigrex, Seregios, Chatacabra
Elemental Bonus [Assist+ Sever]
Kinsect’s elemental damage is increased by 20% while in charged state.
Includes: Glavenus, Namielle, Fulgur Anjanath, Ebony Odogaron
Stun Bonus [Assist+ Blunt]
Kinsect’s hits deal +2 KO (harvest and combo go from 4 to 6 while the combo during Tornado goes from 8 to 10).
Includes: Somnacanth
Assist Bonus [Assist + Power]
While in its charged state, the Kinsect can consume its fully filled extraction gauge to deal 220% damage on one attack.
As a drawback, the Kinsect passive energy regen while under the red extract is nerfed, granting you one stamina point every 5s instead of every 3s. Its energy generation through your attacks is also slightly nerfed.
Includes: Espinas, Kirin, Goss Harag, Deviljho
Follow-Up Bonus [Flight]
The Kinsect deals 2 more hits during the aerial combo, going from 5 to 7 hits. This is thus a 40% damage increase and a pretty good buff for status weapons.
Includes: Magnamalo, Viper Tobi-Kadachi, Rathian, Silver Rathalos
Aerial Bonus [Flight + Power]
Kinsect damage is increased by 30% after each aerial combo, thus being able to get an up to 90% damage buff when you go for the final dive.
Includes: Rajang, Legiana, Nergigante
Stamina Bonus [Powder]
The extraction gauge is increased by 2 points while in charged state, allowing for 2 more explosions once fully charged.
Mighty Powder Bonus [Powder + Power]
The powder explosion has a 130 MV (instead of 46).
As a drawback, the Kinsect passive energy regen while under the red extract is nerfed, granting you one stamina point every 5s instead of every 3s. Its energy generation through your attacks is also slightly nerfed.
Includes: Zinogre, Coral Pukei
Cluster Powder Bonus [Powder + Power]
The powder explosion explodes 3 times with a 43 X 3 MV (instead of 46).
As a drawback, the Kinsect passive energy regen while under the red extract is nerfed, granting you one stamina point every 5s instead of every 3s. Its energy generation through your attacks is also slightly nerfed.
Cluster Powder Bonus is really strong for status weapons as the explosions keep the 1 status modifier from other IG attacks.
Includes: Chameleos
