In MHWilds, using multiple armor pieces of the same set can grant you special skills. There are 2 types of Set Skills, the first ones being linked to the monster type (with both an α and β variants based on the armor type) and the second ones being linked to a specific monster.

These skills triggers once you’ve equipped 3 armor pieces of the same category.
Neopteron Alert / Neopteron Camouflage
Armors: Bulaqchi, Vespoid, Lala Barina, Comaqchi, Nerscylla

Regarding Master Mounter, the skill doesn’t increase your riding dps but speeds up the opening of wounds by your attacks. You won’t be able to do more wounds than without the skill but you can make the monster fall faster.
Fortifying Pelt / Alluring Pelt

The Akuma moves are items that are available once you wear the layered Akuma set or the full armor set. They can’t be used without the Akuma sprite.
They can crit and scale on raw and HZV. Your element or status values and sharpness don’t affect these moves.
Monster skills
These skills have 2 levels tied to the number of pieces of the same monster equiped. The first level is triggered with 2 armors pieces and the second one with 4 pieces.
Doshaguma’s Might

This effect gets triggered even if the Offset doesn’t throw back the monster. The skill is present on both Doshaguma and Guardian Doshaguma armor pieces but also on the Doshagumask.

The effect is triggered as soon as you put a Mantle on and lasts for the whole 180s duration even if you remove the Mantle.
Nu Udra’s Mutiny
This skill inflicts bonus hits with your attacks, dealing raw damage as long as Resentment is active, with a 2s cooldown time between 2 triggers. The hit damage are based on the raw HZV of the part where it lands and are the same no matter the weapon.

Rathalos’s Flare
This skill is present on both Rathalos and Guardian Rathalos sets.
The skill allows your weapon to inflict an explosion who will deal damage based on the fire HZV of the part where it lands and the skill level, no matter your weapon element.
The game simulates the status damage 33% chance by selecting a random check number between 1 and 3, each check having an internal cooldown of 2,5s. The game confirms a check after its cooldown expires and an attack connect with the monstre, moving to the next check if there’s any left. Once every check has been confimed, Scorcher triggers, dealing its explosion to the part you’ve just hit. The skill thus triggers randomly every 2,5, 5 or 7,5s as long as you keep attacking.

This skill synergies with the Whiteflame Torrent skill from Zoh Shia weapons. The Whiteflame Torrent damage overrides Scorcher and are imbued with the set skill fire HZV modifier.

Any skill increasing fire elemental damage (Elemental Absorption, Burst, Gogmapocalypse, etc) will increase the fire damage of the explosion (the damage increase seems to follow its own rules as it’s not linked to the weapon value). The Fire Attack skill increases the explosion fire damage by 4 / 15 / 26% depending on its level.
Gravios’s Protection

Gore Magala’s Tyranny

Curing the virus grants you 15% affinity for 60s, the cure being linked to the MV dealt on the monsters (increasing your attack won’t cure you faster).
The Antivirus skill works well with this skill, granting 25% affinity once the Frenzy is cured.
Guardian Arkveld’s Vitality

The number of hits varies based on the weapon type (GS requires 3 hits, SnS 9 while DB will require 16 hits). Like Burst, you need to chain your hits to get the heal.
The Recovery Up skill increase the health restored by 10 / 20 / 30% depending on its level.
Ebony Odogaron’s Power

The Stamina Gauge from this skill is not part of your original Stamina Gauge and gets used first. This skill synergies with Maximum Might who grants you 30% affinity as long as your original Stamina Gauge is full, acting as a buffer who can keep the buff active despite a few rolls / blocks.
Xu Wu’s Vigor

The items triggering the skill are Well-done Steaks, Rare Steaks and Burnt Meats (basically any item using the steak animation).
This skill buff doesn’t seems to add on with the various buffs you can get from items such as Might Seed, Demondrug, Mega Demondrug, Might Pill or Demonpowder. The game priorizes the strongest buff available. If you’re under Protein Fiend I effects (Attack +15) and someone uses a Demonpowder (+25 attack for 20s), the game will consider the Demonpowder buff for the next 20s then will put you back on Protein Fiend I buff. The Protein Fiend timer doesn’t freeze during this time and will keep going on even while under the powder effects (removing 20s out of the original 120s).
Mizutsune’s Prowess
The first skill level prevents major bubbleblight, aka this status downside. It also allows you to trigger minor bubbleblight after 3 rolls for 30s. This effect allows you to trigger Mizutsune’s weapon skill Slicked Blade and the skill Coalescence. This skill can also be used to trigger Resuscitate (but your set would then require 3 Lord pieces and 2 Mizutsune pieces).
The second level of the skill grants you increased evasion with minor bubbleblight. The bonus is equivalent to Evade Window 2, working in an additive way with the original skill (Bubbly Dance II + Evade Window 3 thus granting you Evade Window 5).
Zoh Shia’s Pulse
This skill allows you to recover health passively beyond the red health gauge. This heal works as if the game grants you 1HP nanopotions at a regular pace, the healing pace being linked to the skill level.

As the game treats this recovery like an healing item, the Recovery Up skill also increases your healing speed. Recovery Speed isn’t useless though as it allows you to reach Super Recovery healing range faster.
Leviathan’s Fury
The Lagiacrus skill might look like Rathalos’s Scorcher but it has its own nuances. Your attacks will gather electrical charge, inducing an electrical explosion after a set number of hits depending on the weapon (unlike a status, the electrical charge is guaranteed). Once the explosion triggers, you get a 15% affinity buff, the buff duration depending on the skill level. Once the affinity buff expires, there’s a 30s cooldown before you can trigger the explosion and buff again.

Any skill increasing thunder elemental damage (Elemental Absorption, Burst, Gogmapocalypse, etc) will increase the thunder damage of the explosion (the damage increase seems to follow its own rules as it’s not linked to the weapon value). The Thunder Attack skill increases the explosion damage by 1 / 6,25 / 11,5% based on its level.
Seregios’s Tenacity

Soul of the Dark Knight
Dark Arts
The first level of the skill works like Resentment but for elemental damage. While you have any amount of red health, you get an elemental buff depending on the weapon. GS, Hammer, HH, LBG and HBG gets a +20% elemental attack buff while the other weapons get a +14% elemental attack buff.
Using a GS, this skill also adds a magical shockwave with any charge 3 Charged Strike, Strong Charged Strike or TCS. This shockwave deals additional damage and extends the range of your charged attacks. It’s a classic attack with a 30 MV, meaning it can crit and will account for HZV and sharpness. It doesn’t consume any sharpness and won’t account for elemental or status damage but also has a 60 dragon element value attached to it (who will get buffed by any skill boosting dragon element attack). It’s also the same shockwave no matter the original move (a Charged Strike and a TCS will both do a 30 MV shockwave).
The Blackest Night
The second level of the skill adds the item of the same name to your item bar. Adding it to your radial menu allows you to use it with your weapon drawn. When you use the item, 33% of your max health is converted into recoverable red health and you get a powerful magic shield for the next 8s. The item has a 70s cooldown.
Pressing Triangle cancel the shield, triggering the Edge of Shadow move. This move is also triggered automatically at the end of the 8s shield. Edge of Shadow scales on your raw and the hitzone value it hits but can’t crit and doesn’t use your sharpness in its damage calculation.
Edge of Shadow damage = 200 + 1,365 X raw X HZV
Blocking a hit with the magic shield triggers the Eventide move, converts your entire health bar to recoverable red health (restoring any HP already lost in the process) and puts under the Undead Redemption effect for 30s. The Undead Redemption state prevents you from losing any red health (any damage dealt will turn your recovered green health to red health), grants you a life steal effect and doubles your defense. Keep in mind that you can still get stunned or inflicted by status and as soon as the Undead Redemption state expires, your remaining red health will be lost on the next hit.
Eventide scales on your raw, can’t crit and doesn’t account for sharpness or hitzone value in its calculation.
Eventide damage = 350 + 1,5 X raw
Omega Resonance
The Savage Omega skill works by alternating 2 auras every 90s during a quest. The initial aura is random. While under Local Resonance (blue ring), you get an affinity buff if another hunter is within the circle. While under Remote Resonance (red ring), you get an attack buff if you’re alone in the circle. These buff can be activated with Support Hunters and won’t work while solo playing.

Gogmapocalypse
The Gogmazios skill increases your elemental damage when facing enraged monsters.

The skill lvl 2 also grants you a protective barrier when a monster enters rage mode. This barrier cancels all damage and status endured while active.
The barrier stays active even if the monster exits rage mode or leaves the area. It expires:
- after enduring around 78-80HP worth of damage
- after 2min20s
It can only be renewed 2min50s after its activation (leaving you 30s vulnerable if you manage to keep it up through its whole duration) or after a cart. It will only be reactivated in front of an enraged monster (including if you are already facing an enraged monster as the cooldown expires).
The barrier has a synergy with Gravios’s Flawless Armor who reduces the damage you take at full health (and thus increase the barrier duration at full health).
Prayer skills (Festival armors)
Each Festival introduces an event armor set with a Boon skill. These skills only works during the corresponding Festival.

You need to keep the skill through the whole quest from the beginning to its end to get the additional rewards. You get at least one event reward at the end of the quest, with harder quests dropping more rewards.
